TGZ is; Dan Toler the legendary
guitar player formerly of the Allman Brothers Band and Dickey Betts & Great Southern,
Ed Zinner the guitar power of Southern Legend and Jazz pianist Ron Gary. Three founding
members come together to create an unrivaled combination of talent, passion and
imagination. But, it doesn't stop there, other great musicians adding their flavors to the
mix include; John Townsend, Tony Green, John McKnight, Avon Lucas, Matt Zeiner with

TGZ - "Living Dangerously" by Laura Jenney
I'm not going to beat around the bush about it one bit... TGZ's debut CD, "Living
Dangerously" on King Mojo Records, in my professional opinion as a music industry
executive, should be considered a serious contender for album of the year! The mastery of
the musicianship by all the members of TGZ on this CD is beyond stellar! And no wonder ...
though this is the debut CD of this incredible band, it's members are no new comers to the
music industry, as TGZ is comprised of some of the true great veteran players of the music
industry, some of which are of legendary status from a variety of genres. Given that fact,
that explains the amazing amount of versatility in this one CD, which delivers
unequivocally some of the best instrumental and vocal performances in new music, covering
a broad spectrum genres, ranging from smooth to fiery hot jazz, progressive rock, smoking
blues, with a flavor of both old and new school R&B and soul, stirring love ballads,
Southern Boogie and more, all in one mind-blowing CD, served up with groove to burn!
Destined to become a classic, "Living Dangerously" IS that one in a million CD
that is sure to attract and satisfy listeners of all the above mentioned genres, and give
a musical education to any listener partial to any one of those genres, and drawing new
fans as well as loyal dedicated fans, (which indeed are vast in number), to the members
that make up TGZ.
Taking a look at the world class artists/musicians that make up TGZ, speaks volumes about
what makes TGZ's CD, "Living Dangerously" as hot as it gets. |

Big
Shanty's 2006 album stayed at the top of online radio charts worldwide for many months
with fresh "Fusion/Blues". Shanty twists Club Beats, Alternative, Funk and Delta
Blues into hypnotic dada rhythms that keep the dance floor shaking while he spins tales of
cruising down back roads, lost love, good girls gone bad and living large. Shanty isn't afraid to funk-up
traditional blues, or have contempt for war-mongering politicians [video]. Big Shanty sings without trepidation, his voice is as hard
driven and purposeful as the heavy punch delivered by drummer Scott Robertson.
Shanty debuts two new tracks on "Allstars, Vol. 3" from his next album.

CD Reviews:
SOUTHBOUND BEAT MAGAZINE - Review by Pat Benny
The cover of the CD is black.
Big Shanty is written in bones. There is a silver chopper, ridden by a
grinning man wearing a top hat and carrying the flag of the Jolly Roger. Naturally, there
is a woman riding on the back.
This aint no candy ass music. This is hard driving, blues influenced Southern Rock
and Roll. This CD wasn't made for sissies.
The songs are credited to a D. Wooley, with some collaboration on a few. We can assume
they belong to Big Shanty. The lyrics are angry, written by one who is sick and tired of
the injustice, the deception, the greed and corruption of todays society. Big Shanty
is outraged, and he wants to tell you all about it.
That isnt to say that there are no love songs on Ride With The Wind. The
title track is a good example. This is a love song, biker style. Big Shanty paints a
landscape that is tattooed on the soul of every true biker worth his salt.
The voice is similar to Lonnie Brooks. There is a throaty texture, enhanced by a
considerable amount of slapback and a touch of echo to Big Shantys vocals. Shanty
sings without trepidation; a voice as hard driven and purposeful as the heavy drums and
percussion of Scott Robertson. Robertsons drums require very few rolls. This music
requires a lot of backbone, and Robertson delivers.
Big Shanty plays a smooth slide, leaving the lead solos to Liz Melendez, for the most
part, and other guitarists. As with the vocal slapback, Melendez doesnt spare the
tube screamer to achieve the hard driving tone for this recording.
King Bee is far and away the most whimsical track, rife with boasting and some
hilarious banter between Big Shanty and Melendez.
If you like your music rock solid, if you want it given it to you straight, you can find
Big Shanty on King Mojo Records. |
